I installed using --nodeps like that gentleman suggested.
Then when I ran ethereal, it complained about newer libraries.
I dont have that box in front of me at the moment, but to fix 
that, I did a link like the following;

$cd /usr/lib
$ln -s    lib.so.8    lib.so.6
