This is possibly win32 name resolution kicking in. AFAIK the resoultion
order is:

a. Hosts file
b. DNS
c. WINS
d. Netbios broadcasts

with LMHOSTS in their somewhere.  (d) is the one that takes the time and
sends gethostbyaddr() out to lunch.
