Hmmm, I still have problems. Both Ethereal and Windump find the adapter but can't open :-

C:\Program Files\Windump>windump -D
1.

C:\Program Files\Windump>windump -i1
windump: listening on
windump: Error opening adapter
Any ideas? (I am logged on with Administrator privelege)

I can use MS Network Monitor to sucessfully sniff packets, and did get windump working on the same h/w when I was running Win95

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Got Ethereal & Win2k to work (try this)

Hi people,

I finally managed to get Ethereal collecting packets with Win 2k and this may work for you ?

type windump -D to see how many devices there are (notice that it puts a number in front of each interface). If you are having the usual win2k prob then the rest if the interface will be some kind of registry key garbage.

then type

windump -i1  (yep use the interface number not the name mine works with 4 which is my last listed interface)

this appears to kick the packet capture driver into life. Then you can start ethereal and click on that interface in the list (in my case the 4th interface) and it will start to log packets.

Hope this helps someone. If it does then let me know.

Regards

Derek
