I saw a similar problem to this posted just a few days ago, but the response does not answer my problem.

Configuration - Win95A, Coax LAN, NetBIOS protocol.

I copied down Packet95.exe and exploded it, so I should have the necessary WinPcap driver. I rebooted. When I run Ethereal I set the protocol for NetBIOS. When I click Start the window shows Interface as P. When I run the program it comes back with error "Capture session could not be initiated (Cannot determine the network type.)".

The response to this question about 2000-10-10 said to load WinPcap and presto, the Interface Type would suddenly appear. Well I can't get it to appear.

When I go to the WinPcap home site and click on the Driver section, the file that I get down is "Packet95.exe". Is this in fact the right file? When I explode it is there anything special I have to do to install it? It explodes into 3 files. I have them in the same directory as Ethereal.exe just to make sure they are in the path.

I am only interested in NetBIOS protocol as I am trying to find a DOS/MS Client machine which is intermittently jabbering on the LAN.

What else can I do?

Doug.
