Lisi -

I also have never seen the term "PCI". I did a search on "tcp pci" and found this link: http://www.synapse.de/ban/HTML/P_TCP_IP/Eng/P_tcp_85.html

It does not really describe what "PCI" is supposed to mean, but the heading of this section is "TCP PCI". I have to assume from this it is simply referring to the TCP header. This, of course, is just a guess.

I didn't. But that is verbatim what my tutor said, and I can't make head or tail of it. Control bits are the bits in "the PCI of a TCP-segment".

I am doing a course on networks, and for the first assignment we have been thrown in in the very deep end of Wireshark. To make things harder, on the face of it our tutor speaks good English - except that it is often impossible to work out what he means, because he misuses words, and has no idea of the subtleties of the English language.

I was on the point of giving up anyway. It is just impossible. If a load of experienced Wireshark users don't know what he means, I certainly don't. :-(

I am the only native speaker on the course. I suspect that it is in fact a disadvantage to be a native speaker.

Thanks for replying - I appreciate it.
