Check that Windows has the Service running that responds to ICMP
packets. What is that? Got me.
If you are running XP then check Control Panel>>Windows
Firewall>>Advanced>>ICMP>>Settings and be sure that everything is set on
that you want.

print sharing no problem .. I think I will pass on a reinstall

Your setup sounds fine and the ping requests are leaving the other
machines AND arriving at M1. However, M1 chooses not to reply. I don't
see any reason from a network perspective that this is happening. If
it's a Windows machine, have you tried reinstalling? :)
