I also think that creating a JSON pre-processing layer may be a good idea since
the number of protocols that need changed is not small:
I found the problem in:
- Modbus (modbus.reg16/32), 
- DNP3 (dnp.application_chunk), 
- Omron-Fins (omron.file_data.filename, omron.error_reset_fals_no,
omron.disk_no, omron.node_error_count, omron.cyclic_error_status), 
- CIP (cip.path_segment), 
- ENIP (enip.cpf.typeid), 
- S7comm (s7comm.data.item), 
- TCP (tcp.pdu.size, tcp.port), 
- IP (ip.addr, ip.host)
