If there's a convention on Windows, then, at least as of IE 5 on Windows XP, it doesn't use it, at least for the drop-down list of recent URLs.

Then again, Safari doesn't offer a way to clear its drop-down list of URLs, either (which is annoying given that it auto-completes URLs and often picks some random URL for the site rather than the home page for the site).

At least on KDE 3.4, the drop-down list of recent searches in Kate's Find dialog box doesn't offer an option for clearing the list. (WordPad on XP doesn't have a drop-down list for that.)

gedit, on the same machine, doesn't have a list-clearing option in the search dialog box's drop-down list, and Epiphany doesn't have a drop-down list of recent URLs.
