I've read posts on pther problems and the developers seem to recommend using windump to prove weather its winpcap causing the problem or not. In this case windump doesn't hang the system indicating that its not winpcap. I'l try knocking out the nortel client though and see if that makes any odds.
Cheers
Pete

Well, having such a problem is a clear indication of a kernel mode problem, this usually relates to WinPcap and not Ethereal by itself.
You may ask the WinPcap developers of that, so they know that there's a problem and maybe they even know a way to help you.
Personal guesswork: From your list of nics, the "Nortel Contivity client virtual nic" seems to be uncommon. I would suggest that you try to disable this one. If that doesn't help you may even try to remove it completely.
