Now ethereal or tethereal will capture packets when no Capture Filters are specified. When they are, e.g. "net 10.x"

Presumably you mean "net 10" or "net 10.0.0.0" or something such as that; "net 10.x" is not a valid capture filter.

NOTHING is captured even though lots of traffic is coming from that network.

Try downloading WinDump:

	http://www.winpcap.org/windump/

and see what it does. If it behaves the same (which it probably will), try un-installing WinPcap and re-installing WinPcap 3.1:

	http://www.winpcap.org/install/default.htm

and see if that fixes the problem. If not, try reporting this to the WinPcap developers:
