The first thing I would do is to install an FTP server in one of the
boxes,
-war ftpd is freeware and works fine- and test traffic internally, so
you check if
the problem is in the computers. Then you can sniff and check if you
have
retransmissions, unjustified delays, incorrect windows settings, etc. XP
includes
a firewall and, I think, also some quality of service support that might
be
messing with the traffic. Also depending on your network configuration,
you
might have NAT with the XP but not with the W2K, Path MTU discovery
delays, etc.
