I do have two computers networked on a Linksys router.
1. Win XP Pro (with Service Pack 1). Oracle 9i server.
2. Win XP Home on Laptop using wireless.
Can I use ethereal in this situation to capture TNS packets?
If this will not work, I can install Linux and Oracle 9i for Linux on
the first machine that has Win XP Pro installed. Could this work?
Or would using some virtual machine software like Boch's, Virtual PC,
or
VMWare work to simulate a network?
I do not know how Oracle 9i would perform on a virtual machine, but
I have used VPC on a Mac to simulate multiple machines connected
via an (virtual) switch. Sniffing works there without any problems.
I also use VMWare in networking classes on Windows machines and
you can simulate a network with even multiple switches.
If you do this kind of stuff you need memory on the host machine.
I am guessing here since I haven't using virtual machine software
before. Is it even possible to simulate a network of computers on one
physical computer? If so, would Oracle 9i even work in such a senario?
Looking for ideas please.
Thanks,
Daniel
