I'm using Ethereal 0.10.0 on W98 SE, and I too get this error (Uncompression
error: Buffer error.)

Some other info: It just started happening (today)... it used to work fine,
with no such error. Last working use of Ethereal, maybe two weeks ago. (Is
there a log of usage anywhere?) I cranked it up today because my W98SE and
W2KPro machines can no longer see each other. I can ping back and forth, but
mapped drives can't be restored, and I can't see the printer (on the W98SE
machine, from W2K).

Differences from Richard Painter's report:

- My error comes AFTER I stop capturing. (Maybe Richard has "display while
capturing" turned on... I don't.)
- It's on 0.10.0, instead of 0.10.04.

The resulting files are left in C:\windoze\temp\ether, and they are zero
bytes big. (Would that cause an uncompression error, or would uncompressing
zero bytes be no problem?)

I'm going to download the latest Ethereal to the W2K machine, and hope I can
find my connection problem from there.
