Hi-
I hope you can help me. I am running Windows XP and
wanted to install WinPcap ver. 3.0 and the Ethereal
Ver. From 26.Mar.2004: ethereal-setup-0.10.3.exe on
my Laptop- Dell Latitude X300 (brand new).
No matter what version of WinPcap or ethereal I have
tried, I get the same following error messages:
1.) When
installing WinPcap_3_0.exe, downloaded from your Main site, as suggested from www.ethereal.com,
I double click on the exe
to install and it starts off OK. However, when I have agreed to the License and
Hit Enter, it starts to
install and then stops with the following error message:
Error:
Cannot install file “C:\Windows\System32\drivers\npf.sys
Then, it aborts my
install.
I have tried othere
versions3.1 and 2.3 as well and have tried from various sources/ mirrors. Each
time, I get the same message.
Please advise.
2.) When
trying to install Ethereal by doubleclicking on the downloaded file on the same
Laptop: ethereal-setup-0.10.3.exe which I
acquired from the Main site from www.ethereal.com
( but also have tried various sites with the same results) I get also the
following error message:
Error opening
file for writing:
“C:\Program
Files\Ethereal\wiretap-0.1.dll”
Hit abort to
abort install, retry to retry writing file, or ignore to skip this file.
Again, I tried
from different mirrors and older versions and it always is the same.
Any help you
could provide for these problems would be greatly appreciated.
