But, the Solaris admin on the box will not let me run ethereal cuase I can sniff all the traffic going in and out of the box.  We still use telnet, rlogin, etc. instead of ssh. 

...is the Solaris box the one running the servlet?
And, if so, is the browser running on some desktop machine where the admin doesn't get to say what software you run? 

If so, you might try running Ethereal on *that* machine, instead.
