i have used ethereal and winpcap (older versions) to capture packets on windows 9x for some time. 
at some point in the not-to-distant past with recent ethereal and winpcap 
upgrades it has stopped working.  it does not capture any packets and is silent 
(no error message).  i have noticed a few messages in this list that refer to 
winpcap being disabled but no specifics as to when.

if it is disabled then why is there not some error message instead of silently 
not workiing?

what was the last versions of ethereal and winpcap that will work on the windows 
ppp adapter?  it used to work fine!
