Have a look for RAT (Robust Audio Tool). This will generate unicast and multicast streams at various bandwidths. I have used to test MC performance on a switched network. You can drive it from the commandline as well as using a Java GUI. It does all the normal IGMP stuff that you will need

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Multicast Testing tool?
I know this isn't 100% ethereal related, but I am using ethereal to watch
for the UDP multicast stream... and you people seem just so bright after
all.
Does anyone have a linux or solaris tool/code/binary I can use to send out a
subscription to a particular multicast ip address and port?
I found some C code written by a kid about 6 months ago when I put this
setup together, and I can't find it after I rewrote it to save the life of
me. Our multicast subscription code stopped working last week, but the
developpers are doing a major overhaul.
I'd like to see if its still working at a very basic level, so I can tell
them to leave my poor network alone :)
Thanks,
Ronald Prague
