He may not mean the same thing by "decode pane" that you do.  He spoke
of columns in what *he* called the "decode pane", so he may mean the
packet list pane (topmost pane).  However, you are referring to the pane
showing the detailed packet decode (which is what I'd call the decode
pane as well - I'd calle the first pane the "packet list pane" or the
"summary pane").

So a user can get that information - they just can't get it in the
packet list display (without adding code to implement it).
