If you mean Wifi then that's a nasty ball-game to get into. If you're
talking straight 10/100 ethernet then there shouldn't be a problem. I do
this all the time.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. To me, a port being open means
that it will respond to traffic. Ethereal is not capable of doing this,
as it cannot generate traffic.
