I installed and used Ethereal successfully for packet capturing about a month ago on my Win98 system, using a Linksys USB connection (USB100TX) to my Linksys router.

Since then, to resolve some problems I was having setting the proper MTU value for TCP/IP traffic, I deleted the networking protocols associated with the USB100TX, deleted the USB100TX, reinstalled it, and reinstalled the networking protocols.

Everything on the network seems to be working fine, and I can connect to other machines on the local LAN, access the Internet via the router/gateway, etc.

However, I can no longer use Ethereal to capture packets. I have removed Winpcap and Ethereal and reinstalled them. I have also tried the WinDump program.

When I try to capture packets, both WinDump and Ethereal report "Error opening adapter: The system cannot find the file specified."

Any suggestions for how to resolve this? Any way to get a more detailed diagnostic error message, that would tell me what's really happening?

	Thanks,
	Walt
