Well, he may have installed an older version - 4.2, as I remember,
printed all that junk when you ran Ethereal, but 4.2.1 made the
complaints go away.

If he hadn't installed it, he either wouldn't have been able to run
Ethereal (if he had a pre-linked binary dynamically linked with libsnmp)
or wouldn't have gotten those messages (if he'd built from source).
