Winsock 2 fixed a number of TCP/IP bugs in the original Winsock 1.1 that
shipped with Windows 95. In my personal experience, it fixed some GroupWise
issues on Windows 95. Only in very rare cases have I heard of Winsock 2
"breaking" existing software.

Correct. Win 98 shipped with Winsock2. Winsock2 support was made available
for Win95 as an update:

Eeek! Don't use the NT v4.0 version. I used the Win 95 version for a long
time and never had any problems at all. And this was on quite a few PCs.

I cannot comment on this, but there's other Win 95 software that requires
Winsock2. Just bear in mind that installing this update will force a reboot
of your PC.
