i am a newbie looking for some help

when i execute ./configure i get an error message that reads:

checking for bison ... no
checking for byacc ... no
checking for flex ... no
checking for lex ... no
./configure: flex: command not found
checking for flex ... lex
checking for yywrap in -ll ... no
checking lex output file root .... ./configure: lex: command not found
configure: error: cannot find output from lex: giving up

I am running mandrake 8.0 on a dell inspiron 3200.

I have done as the web site indicates and made sure that gtk+, tcpdump are
installed.

any help would be most appreciated
