Hi there

As part of a school project I am trying to determine how the Cisco IP
phone 7960 works. In particular I am interested in the format of the
configuration file that is sent from the Call manager to the IP phones. I
want to know what the format of the packet it and hence the details of the
configuration file. Is ethereal a suitable tool for this? I searched
through the table of the protocols and fields but wasn't able to find any
information. I am confused as I read an earlier mail on this mailing list
about a user who was unable to use ethereal to determine the packets for
his Cisco router using semi-proprietary HDLC encapsulation. (The point
being that I thought I could determine the description of any packet, and
obviously there are exceptions). Any help or advice would be much
appreciated.

If anyone is interested - details about the Cisco phone can be found here:

If I cannot use ethereal please could someone recommend another
package?

Thanks for your time
