OK, a question for everyone.

I have a network with 1 x Linux (RH6.2), 1 x WinME (with Wingate), 1 x
Win95a, 1 x Win for Workgroups 3.11, and a number of DOS 6.22 boxes which do
data acquisition and control. (As a separate issue, in the past I have used
NetBIOS over NetBEUI as the means of inter-process/machine communication. I
have decided to upgrade the DOS boxes where possible (memory allowing) to
TCP/IP.)

In the past I have not had to have a DNS as I have used dotted.quad notation
in all the applications that used TCP/IP. As I want to Ethereal for network
monitoring it would seem appropriate at this point in time to move to using
host names. This means putting in a DNS so that Ethereal can do host name
resolution. What is the most appropriate machine on which to put a DNS?
Wingate on the WinME system could operate as a DNS, or would I be better to
put the DNS on the RH Linux box?

If I do put up a DNS, do I need a patch for Ethereal which I have read
about?

Doug Rickard.
