Just FYI, since I know the problem has been solved from the ethereal
side of things, but the ucd-snmp toolkit supports packet dumping
itself using the -d flag (raw hex) and -Ddump flag, which breaks down
packets. If you run snmptrapd -Ddump, you'll see the incoming traps
broken down for you.
This is more important when using the SNMPv3 version of the protocol,
since ethereal can't parse it yet. (I've been thinking about updating
the parser to support SNMPv3, but haven't found the spare time to do
so yet... Anyone else working on it?)
Craig> Also, can anyone recommend good books for learning about SNMP?
There are quite a few popular ones, like "The Simple Book" and
"Understanding SNMP MIBS" but none of them are perfect and start from
a real basic standpoint. (did you read the ucd-snmp tutorial?)
