But I'm actually a bit skeptical about: "receive bug fixes and security updates"

Let's be honest, the buglist of the current beta grows with a few bugs each week (estimated), so we don't even keep up with the current incoming rate.

So who's really going to do this maintenance work, when the release and the latest branch are no longer in real sync after some time?

I'm assuming that at least one of the following will happen to the 1.0 codebase after the 1.0 release:

  - Our automated testing tools will find problems.
  - Security research (like rust) never sleeps.
  - Downstream distributions (such as Red Hat and SuSE) will find and
    fix bugs.

I don't know who will do the maintenance work. I plan to do some of it, at least. Anyone want to volunteer to be the 1.0 maintainer?
