Would the password be a value that the user would want saved as a
preference, so that it's in effect every time they run Ethereal, or
would it be a per-session password?

If the latter, perhaps we need to provide a way to attach preferences to
sessions; a "session" might be a conversation, or it might have to be a
new concept (of which a conversation might be one instance).
