I did do a "cleanbld" before calling "nmake". Moreover config.h and
config.h.win32 looks identical. But config.h.win32 doesn't have any
indication that "DIR" is redefined. I see other symbols but not this one.

The Makefile.nmake file is supposed to do that, but perhaps it didn't do
so.
