It's a library of routines that I think were originally developed as
useful routines for GTK+, and it was part of the GTK+ distribution for
GTK+ 1.0[.x], but they made it a separate library (still used by GTK+)
for GTK+ 1.2[.x]/GLib 1.2[.x].
