Just make sure that the default driver is the promiscuous one.

Never mind...I powered off the PC, made sure the NIC was inserted and then powered up.   Seems to be working fine now.

Subject: [Wireshark-users] Cannot capture on Xircom PCMCIA NIC

Windows XP SP2

Wireshark 1.2.4

WinPCAP 4.1.1

I am trying to use a Xircom (PCMCIA) NIC to capture.  The NIC is working fine, but it does not show up in the interface list in Wireshark or from tshark -D.   Windump does see it, and can capture using this card.   Windump -D output:

1.\Device\TNT_40_2_GenericDialupAdapter (Adapter for generic dialup and VPN capture)

2.\Device\TNT_40_2_{F01718CC-8281-4544-BEF5-0AB8BC54B647} (Xircom CardBus Ethernet 10/100 Adapter (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

3.\Device\TNT_40_2_{0584563C-B81A-448D-BAF3-699FA7B33997} (Juniper Network Connect Virtual Adapter)

4.\Device\TNT_40_2_{A866D2DC-1982-4327-A984-718CDB0D435C} (NOC Extranet Access Adapter (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

5.\Device\TNT_40_2_{74CE3E4F-DD5D-48E1-A97D-D39484A400ED} (Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

6.\Device\TNT_40_2_{0AC9BBB5-2591-44E0-A99D-A892480F4A90} (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Driver (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

(Interface #2 is the problem interface).

tshark -D output:

1. \Device\NPF_GenericDialupAdapter (Adapter for generic dialup and VPN capture)

2. \Device\NPF_{0AC9BBB5-2591-44E0-A99D-A892480F4A90} (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Driver (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

3. \Device\NPF_{74CE3E4F-DD5D-48E1-A97D-D39484A400ED} (Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

4. \Device\NPF_{A866D2DC-1982-4327-A984-718CDB0D435C} (NOC Extranet Access Adapter (Microsoft's Packet Scheduler) )

5. \Device\NPF_{0584563C-B81A-448D-BAF3-699FA7B33997} (Juniper Network Connect Virtual Adapter)

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what might be the problem?   TIA for any assistance.

Russ
