Title: Wireshark on 64 bit Vista?

I reinstalled, but it appears to have made no difference. I would appreciate any help you could give me.

I have a suspicion that the problem has something to do with the change in the way the user accounts are stored. In Vista, they are in c:\Users. In XP they were in \Documents and Settings. The places where apps store their private data have changed along with this.

This isn't very helpful, but my home machine is 64 bit Vista and runs Wireshark (without winpcap) just fine.

I suspect a reinstall might fix your problems, but if not let me know and I'll see if I can get any more useful information from my config when I'm at home.

My machine is running Xeons, but apart from the HAL, I'd expect the software side to be the same.

For anti-virus I use Kaspersky.

When I run Wireshark I get the error message “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail”. I believe that Wireshark ran correctly when I first installed it. I haven’t done anything to cause this that I know of, except maybe install AVG/Pro and de-install Norton.

I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit running on a HP Pavillion D5z laptop with an AMD Turion something or other. Has anyone seen this problem?

I have another application, Visual SlickEdit that has a problem that looks similar. I suspect it has to do with the security features in Vista. Could it be that these apps cannot get to files it needs because of the security in Vista? Since I can’t even open the apps, it’s hard to tell where any “unavailable” files might be.
