Yes, there's a common reason (like it has a bug). 500 packets is not
even remotely *close* to a large trace file. 500,000 packets would be
a large trace file.
Does it crash on *all* pcap files, or just one particular pcap file?
Could you file a bug on bugs.wireshark.org, and attach the pcap file
(perhaps making it a private attachment)?
