Indeed I didn't download the tarballs, but I did check the source online a few times before sending something here.

Sure enough, now I can't find where I came up with the 1.8.8,1.8.9 versions...

So there was either something wrong with me, or something wrong with git. For now we'll assume it is me :)

The referred change has been done before branching off 1.8:
