Redhat has stopped enabling the Python bindings[1] but IIRC OpenSUSE or
somebody else still had them enabled last I checked.
But I don't think that's a good reason to keep them around: just look in
trunk-1.10 where we (I) disabled Python support to keep distributions
(or anybody else) from trying to use something that's so buggy.
The other argument (that I remember) for keeping them around was "it's a
bunch of code that shouldn't be thrown away." But it'll always be there
in the source code history...
