Will all C++ implementations handle that?
Will any C++ implementations that don't handle that handle
1) Qt
and
2) Wireshark's C++ code
given that they're pre-standard implementations?
If the answers are "yes" and anything, or if the answers are "no" and "no", that's the right thing to do.
