This bug:

Contains a patch which appears to do this. So I suspect there's no need 
for a Wishlist item.



Note it requires the spandsp library, which:
1) is at 0.0.6pre17 now, so it's test code at best[1]
2) needs to be ported to several platforms before it can be used.
