Could it be because it's used by the K12_HEXDMP macro?
#define K12_HEXDMP(x,a,b,c,d) k12_hexdump(x,a,b,c,d)
Which then calls a function that uses it? I wonder if changing the
macro to the function itself would satisfy that version of gcc?
