Let me give you an update as to where I think we are.
U3:
===
In order to get on the U3 site, WiresharkPortable needs to go through a
certification
process with the U3 guys:
http://www.u3.com/developers/technical/certification.aspx
Now they provide a very nice self-test utility which WiresharkPortable
passes.
However, there is still [at least] one issue I know of with the
WiresharkPortable which would
be shown up by their third-party testing.
[This known issue is that Wireshark[Portable] will crash if you eject the U3
device when
Wireshark still running and has a dialog up (it behaves correctly if there
is no dialog up).
I haven't been able to determine the problem - there is no U3-specific code
here (a separate
application just sends a WM_CLOSE to each Wireshark window).]
Now the U3 guys will only test a U3 application for free twice (this is a
commercial outfit after all),
so I/we really need to fix this outstanding issue before making a
submission.
And on the same basis, it is probably worth waiting for a "major" release -
e.g. 1.0.
We would still be limited to two submissions - so the Wireshark version on
u3.com website
would be quickly out of date. We could do really use a "check for updates"
feature! :-)
However, I think it is worth trying once.
PortableApps:
=============
I'd missed that this package was now available on the download page, and not
even marked as experimental!
Given that people seem to be happy with it, I'll post a message to the
beta-testing forum
(http://portableapps.com/forums/development/beta_testing) to let the
PortableApps testers loose on it.
After we have been through that process, we should be able to get it on the
PortableApps site.
