You see the crash even with "thousands of colors"? As I remember, the X server code path in question was followed only with 24-bit color, so maybe there's *another* bug.
I changed to Thousands (16bit) color in the monitor preferences, not the X11.app
One warning popped up while listening to my ethernet.
