In commit 0be98aa0ec0c23d4a0fcfdc4ca3bd69c28c9a1b6 code was added (line 989 as
of now) to check for (len == 0) while the whole switch its contained in does
not run when (len == 0). Non of the other switch cases have this check, but
this one seems explicitly added, while resulting in dead code.
