By right clicking on the "Profile" button in the Task Bar of the GUI, then
click on "Manage Profiles", I can create a new profile by clicking on the "+"
button.  This creates an "empty" personal profile.
Switch to that Profile, again using the Profile button on the task bar.
It appears that ANY pcap file you try to load will hang within a few seconds. 
The first indication is the pane adjustment size bars immediately do not work. 
After a few seconds, Wireshark goes into a Non-responding mode.
This is true for any capture file I try to load.

The only way I have been able to avoid the "Not Responding" scenario is to copy
a "recent" file into the new profile's folder.
