The highlighting is tracking fields from the packet dissection.
In a manner similar to the way the corresponding bytes are highlighted when
selecting a field in the packet tree, selecting bytes in the packet bytes pane
highlights the corresponding field in the packet tree.
I'm not sure I see any advantage to be able to highlight a number of arbitrary
bytes in the packet bytes pane. How does this help you in your task?
