I often wondered why I get a certain result in Wireshark which doesn't match my
filter.
When entering a display filter during a live capture, the display filter
textbox may lose the focus. This may result in different cases:
a) the filter is incomplete and has invalid syntax. The textbox is red. This is
obvious and the user may easily find out and correct
b) the filter is complete or incomplete, has valid syntax but is not applied
yet. The textbox is green. The user can only recognize that the filter is not
applied by the blue arrow icon (which turns to grey after Enter is pressed)
