According to Internet wisdom [1], there are two accepted lengths for MAC: 16
(md5) and 20 (SHA1 or anything else that can generate 160 bit digests -
RIPEMD-160 for example).


[1) The documentation available is fairly fragmented, confusing, stale. Not
unlike the ntpd source code.
