What do these commands output on your system?

pkg-config --cflags lua
pkg-config --libs lua
pkg-config --cflags-only-I lua

(I think our configure script is going about all the Lua detection incorrectly;
we should just use pkg-config.  But I figured I should check if it would work
for your system before doing that...)
