When you added the filter to Graph 1 did you click the Graph 1 button twice (as
you did to fix the graph)?
If you don't do that then the graph won't apply the filter (and it will
continue to show you the unfiltered results).
The UI aspects of that have annoyed me for a long time but I've never thought
of a better way (well, I haven't spent a tremendous amount of time thinking
about it either...).
