After my recent changes to get the PIDL dissectors to build again, I took a
look at the samba repo and tried to compare the .idl files (based on "name") to
the packet-dcerpc* files in Wireshark (because it appeared to me that many were
created "from scratch" and never through the PIDL). I only found about an
additional 5 (including BROWSER) that appeared like they should be using the
PIDL, but that still leaves many without a matching IDL
I (and other core developers) share your desire for the autogenerated
dissectors, but what I've always struggled with is building on Windows because
of Yapp. The installation instructions for it apparently aren't "dummy proof",
as I've failed on multiple occasions to try to get it to work (and I consider
myself a dummy when it comes to perl beyond a self-contained single script
file)
