Wireshark's architecture assumes that users will only work with one capture
file at a time using a single main window. This isn't how normal document-based
desktop applications work. As a result, users have to open a separate instance
of the executable for each capture file (which is odd on Windows and Linux and
*really* odd on OS X). It also shows up in places like the toolbar -- we have a
non-standard "Close" button where in other apps you'd just close the window.
Adding support for opening multiple capture files in the same process would let
us add interesting features such as the ability to compare capture files. (We
currently have a "compare" feature but it doesn't work very well.)
