My impression is that it's not, in its current state, something one can "try
out."  It's something one enables so one can continue development on.  Really
now that we're using git it could/should be on a [WIP] change (i.e., not
actually merged to master)--isn't that part of the point of git branches? 
Would it be reasonable to move one or both of these projects to gerrit changes?

(BTW I'm thinking to cherry-pick change 3596 to master-1.12 and straight-out
disable echld and tfshark since any development on them should be done in
master.)
